by order of Tim Barnard, Company Secretary, May 2014

1.      Apologies for absence and announcements

2.      To approve the Board’s recommendation for a ground share agreement to be signed with Abergavenny Thursdays Trust Limited to enable all First Team and Under 19 competitive fixtures to be played at Pen-y-Pound Stadium in Abergavenny.

As most of you are aware, despite winning the Welsh League we could not take up a place in the Welsh Premier League because our ground would not meet the ground criteria – by a long way.

In truth it never will because of the village green status and the fact that we share it with Rugby, and cricket and dare I say even Bowls and tennis.

Despite our attempts at trying to find an alternative there is nothing in Monmouth or the immediate surrounding areas that is practical or feasible. If we are to progress as a football club and gain promtion to the Welsh Premier League we need better facilities. It may get worse as in two years time Clubs without floodlights and /or seated accommodation will be relegated from Division One to Division Two and maybe even further down the pyramid.

Our current ground share arrangements do not allow us to develop in the way we need to remain competitive at the higher reaches of Welsh football. Our gate receipts are poor compared to the attendances, we cannot arrange fund raising events in our exsting venue as it is well below a standard we can expect people to frequent. Our catering/bar offer on match days is negligible as most people would prefer to head for town after a game and our catering facilities are not good enough to make a decent fist of having a nice pie and a pint at half time. Because of planning conditions we are not able to even sell pitch side adverting to any great extent as boards need to be erected and removed after every match. Similarly we need planning and CADW permission to hang a fixture notice board outside the gates. We cannot host the tournaments we used to or arrange pre season friendlies.

For these reasons, but mainly for football reasons I will be proposing at an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Club on Tuesday 17th June at 6.45 at the clubhouse that Monmouth Town Football Club reach agreement with Abergavenny Thursdays Trust Ltd to enable a ground share at Pen Y Pound Stadium Abergavenny from the commencement of the coming season (2014/15) for the first team and Under 19s.

The hard work put in by many players and management over the past ten years and maybe more cannot be allowed to stagnate and move backwards and although it is a decision that will be hard to make it is, in my view, the right one for the club to make.

We intend to retain all existing rights at Monmouth and will remain members of the sports association to ensure that our existing Monmouth facilities are used for the development and enjoyment of football in the town under the banner of Monmouth Town FC. I hope and trust that those among you who have supported us wholeheartedly with time, cash as well as voice over the remarkable journey we’ve made at all levels and age groups  will understand that if football in and for Monmouth is to thrive and get even better we have to have the facilities to allow our boys and girls to play at the highest levels as well as recreationally now and in the future.

I am happy to take questions on facebook or twitter or on our message board or even privately but I must stress that this decision at an EGM is for paid up members only. There is still time to join if you feel strongly one way or another and would like to attend the meeting and vote.

Sincerely and in football,

Lee Robson
